#61: How to start putting yourself 'out' there?
Some thoughts on building an audience online doing what you love!
Earlier this week I was in a conversation with a YouTuber who has 150k+ subscribers and doing a high end 7 figure business. This also pushes their ‘valuation’ in 9 figures although they are not currently looking to raise.
They started from scratch with 0 social credibility before this but do come from a strong engineering background. I asked them a polite question and here’s what I learnt from them about putting yourself out there in terms of digital branding:
Your story, your power
Your story is what travels faster and farther than you! This man failed had a sine curve like story. Up and down! When he got online, he kept self pity to side and simply started documented whatever he has lived.
Your story, Win or lose; your ownership.
DIY
You can take support from outsiders or learn from professionals by paying them for their services but your games can’t be played by outsiders. Do-It-Yourself
..but seeking help is not a crime
This gentleman outsourced things to learn from the other creators and professionals.
Don’t know camera and editing? Seek help.
Don’t know shoot skills? Seek help.
Don’t know algorithm? Seek help.
Don’t know analytics? Seek help.
Don’t know scripting? Seek help.
Scale in your mind first
Organic growth comes with a caveat. It seduces you to play small games. When scaling, scale in your mind first. Know that you are here for the long run!
Pick small steps
PhysicsWallah started as a YouTuber, so did Carry Minati. None thought to make a fortune but a small side project, initially. PhysicsWallah even had a 11 lac corpus fund before he quit active teaching. This means, he had a full time job while scaling YT.
Be it a Twitter or a Telegram or a YouTube! Pick one and scale it as a side project, first.
Monetize when you can not when you have to
You can monetize even when you are at 1k and you can not even have single penny out of 100k. It is your way, purely!
But how to monetize?
Build what people really want
For 6 months, be a giver
These 6 months will teach you your product ideas
Have some free/pay what you want products as part of A/B testing
Know that 0 → 1 and 1→ 100 are different
What took you from 0 to 1 won’t work for 1 to 100! Always have ‘what next’ in mind!
Lastly, enjoy the process of creating. If you don’t enjoy the game, you won’t ever scale.
