Let us take a journey to the past together.
We get into the time travel machine; the moment we step out, we find ourselves standing in the India of the 70s. Hardly 25 years ago, the nation celebrated freedom from the clutches of Britishers. It took us years to draft and gift ourselves a constitution. You venture out into the rural India of the 70s only to learn about a new government effort.
An effort to offer a level playing field as established in the constitution!
From land to liberty, you see a revolution happening on the ground, albeit legally. While you find a disconnect here since you come from 2022, you head to a mutt in Kerala. Let us believe it to be Edneer Mutt.
The state government brought in two land reform laws. The laws have limited the rights of mutts to administer their properties. As you walk further into the mutt premises, you see a bunch of people sitting around a seer. There is tension in the air as they wait for someone.
Who? You have no idea.
Suddenly, a new rush meets you as someone in a black coat appears. There are whispers everywhere! The black coat guy is a lawyer from Delhi who has offered to take a look at the case at the request of the seer. Mind you! Seer is a respectable figure in the religious and social community across the country.
You take a seat in the corner and silently start observing. As the meeting disperses, you decide to follow this black-coat guy like a shadow wherever he goes!
The next day, you find yourself in Delhi as the black-coat guy challenged the order of the Kerala government under Article 26.
Article 26: Freedom to manage religious affairs
Back in 2022
Today, we know this case as the Keshvanand Bharti Case of 1973. A landmark judgement in India where the seer, Keshvanand Bharti ji won his rights to administer the land u/A 26.
The black coat guy, as we now know, was legendary Nani Palkhivala. The man did not just stand up for a cause but re-defined the constitution in India.
How did this happen? What is the essence of this story?
The cause above is 'landmark' because a lawyer who knew the law stood for the rights of a Hindu Mutt.
As India enters Amrit Kaal after celebrating its glorious 75 years of Independence as Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the next 25 years in our The Indian Story are crucial.
Therefore to take the country forward, our youth needs to be well-informed on all fronts to deal with the challenges that await us in the next 25 years and thereafter!
While we, the Indians, are destined to excel, we shall be equipped with a basic understanding of the Indian Constitution. Unfortunately, our constitution has been held in jargon.
These jargons fail to appeal to layman and students (other than law students)
To fix this, I am bringing "100 Articles of Indian Constitution that every young Indian should know!" in easy Hindi and English. It is a series of 100 videos teaching 100+ articles to young Indians mainstreaming legal education in India :D
