I can’t believe my luck but I met THE Dalai Lama. Before I tell you more, here are the things I learnt from His Holiness.
“Act of bringing food is one of the basic roots of any relationship”
Ever since he remembers, he has been particular that his mother brings him the food. (No one else!) Although the things changed when he was picked as Dalai Lama but his relationship with his cooks and servers had this ‘basic root’
Rainbow: beautiful yet without substance
Who does not love rainbow, eh? Somehow, this ‘god’ does, too. However, he does not advise his people to be like it. Why? You read it in the quote above, eh!
Anyone who wishes to lead must remain close to the common people
The uncrowned king of Tibet had a lavish life in Lhasa. Hundreds of attendants, servers, palaces to spend different seasons and yet, at a mere age of 24, he had to leave his capital, country and people. When he came to India in exile, he happily left lavish life behind to sit on plastic chair with Tibetans.
While this might sound a common thing in Indian society where nobility plays no role, for Tibetans, it was a shock to see their ‘god’ sitting on same level as theirs.
Truth, Justice & Courage: 3 weapons of Tibetans
Tibetans have been in exile for a long time yet you will seldom find anyone complaining. It was in 1959 when His Holiness left his country. 63 years in exile and yet, you will seldom see him without a smile.
Why? He and his people got 3 weapons.
How did I meet him?
There are more things that I can talk about as learnings from the living incarnation of Buddha. However, I need to tell you about how did I meet him.
I was strolling in Khan Market one fine afternoon and walked inside a cafe. Taking a look at the things on display, I picked ‘Freedom in Exile’ the autobiography of Dalai Lama. In just ₹600/- I met Dalai Lama and learnt from his experiences. It was fun, you shall try it, too.
Picture of the week
I spent the Diwali weekend in pretty places of New Delhi. Sharing an image from a beautiful restaurant in the capital.
