Often I have heard the people around me referring to their ventures as their baby. Must be so! After all, they are the ones who give ‘birth’ to it, take it to the best places they know to learn and eventually celebrate the growth and revenue in their ‘old-age’
Every day a significant amount of the time is spent on learning about it, from it, and about it. On a few days, it brings you exhaustion when things do not seem to work out while on the other, it brings you little joy with ‘baby’ steps. Just like a parent meeting teachers, guardians, instructors of their child, you get to meet new people in face of the customer(s), investor(s), collaborators, partners and so on!
Quite dreamy, no?
NO!
Guess the dream is prevalent only in this amazing country claiming to take on the west single-handedly overtaking Chinese and Jap aspirations.
Based on my interactions with the entrepreneurs in the west, emotion is a significant game in their territory too but with a different approach.
While the venture is our baby to us, the ones on the better side, be it the west or our neighbor, tend to let their higher EQ draw a line between their ‘baby’ and work.
As an observer, I find the approach better than the one prevalent around me. Do not let your work/venture be your baby. If it dies a premature death, your ability to reproduce will be choked. If it hits the ‘success’ your futile ego will choke your rationale to see the mistakes in your ‘baby’.
Let the business/venture stay its way, you know you are here to make money!
